My Fitness Journey

After almost 8 years of coaching I recently realized I’ve never really sat down and written out my entire fitness journey. I am always talking one on one whether in person or in DM’s about my journey and what motivates me to stay consistent, but I’ve never really shared it all publicly.

Let’s start from the beginning.

It was April 2014 and Brian and I had just gotten married the summer before. We were living in a little one bedroom apartment and both working in careers that we really loved.

I was working for Red Bull energy drink managing their sampling program and collegiate marketing in Middle and East TN and Brian was working for Krispy Kreme managing their marketing in 5 states. Healthy combo right?!

I was traveling around the state and commuting to Nashville a lot, while Brian was traveling around his territory.

Back Story:

Right after our wedding we were both very fit and I was the smallest I had ever been when we got married, BUT I wasn’t healthy.

Leading up to our wedding I would go to the gym and have a goal of burning 700 calories between the stair stepper, treadmill and elliptical. I tracked every bite I ate and always stayed UNDER 1,200 calories. Sure I LOOKED healthy but my mindset and obsession wasn’t.

Once Brian and I got married I started gaining weight. Between birth control, eating normal again (not so extreme about calories) and trying to cook yummy meals to help my husband gain weight, I started to feel crappy myself.

I tried a few popular fitness groups and plans and nothing was sticking. We switched gyms and I started going to group fitness classes.

I was falling in love with the gym again and starting to see results from going 5 days a week to Body Pump. I loved it so much I started exploring teaching classes. The only problem was I had a full time job and really couldn’t commit to being there for a daily class. I loved the group feeling and encouraging other women!

Around the end of 2013 one of my friends invited me to a Bible study where we would study the “Daniel Plan” by Rick Warren. That group and book were transformational for me.

While I didn’t follow the diet, the way he connected fitness and my relationship with God clicked in a way I had never experienced. For the first time in my life I surrendered my health journey over to the Lord and started to see chains break!

I wasn’t obsessing over my fitness, I wasn’t comparing myself to other women, I was working out because I LOVED the way it made me feel and fueling my body for energy and out of gratitude.

One day my cousin came over and I noticed how fit she looked and most of all, how happy and healthy she felt! You could tell she had a lot of energy and just felt great.

I asked her what she was doing and she told me I had to follow this girl on instagram named Michelle Myers. She explained how she had joined her group and was doing this workout called T-25. I could see a HUGE change in her and most of all I was intrigued by the way she said Michelle was coaching her, faith focused on and first.

I watched Michelle on instagram for a few months before finally reaching out and asking for information on coaching and her fitness group. I was scared but I was also intrigued and knew where she was in life was where I wanted to be when I had kids. I had just experienced chains breaking in my own life and was excited to share my story with others and help them do the same.

Why I became a Coach:
I really loved my job but I always knew I wanted to own my own business.

I grew up an entrepreneur’s daughter so something inside of me wanted the same for my family. I knew it would be flexible and allow me to be home with my kids and work around their schedule.

I also LOVED fitness and women’s ministry. I had looked into becoming a Body Pump instructor but really couldn’t commit due to having a full time job. I never knew if I would need to travel for work or have an early morning meeting. I had looked into women’s ministry as well and even explored seminary and prayed about applying for jobs in my church, but I just never felt a peace.

When I saw Michelle on instagram working in the “mom cracks” of her day and working out in her playroom with kids crawling at her feet, I knew I wanted that! She talked about her team, women in her groups and was daily sharing faith focused post that left me feeling really encouraged and challenged. She was literally bringing all 3 of my passions together and I wanted her as my mentor and business coach.

How being a coach and doing Beachbody programs have helped me:

These products and this community have changed my life! They helped me lose 10-15 pounds in the beginning. I was able to workout from home and take my workouts with me on the road when I was traveling. They have also helped me lose 60 pounds after my first baby and 55 pounds after my second. I am now on my postpartum journey after baby number 3 and have 30 pounds to lose.

But coaching has done SO much more for me than just lose weight and get healthy (although a HUGE plus).

Because of coaching I am now home with my 3 kids FULL TIME and working my business in the “mom cracks” of my day much like Michelle was 8 years ago when I started following her.

Coaching has brought me the most amazing community of women in our fit community and they help hold me accountable in so many areas of my life. It has helped me get more productive with my time, managing my resources better which has made me a much better wife and mom.

BUT EVEN MORE- I have been able to share my story with others and ultimately share my faith! That has been the best part. Coaching and fitness are merely a means to being able to share Jesus.

I didn’t know what I was looking for when I became a coach and I never IMAGINED it would become what it has, but wow God is good! I just kept showing up and remaining consistent even when I didn’t know exactly what I was doing. I always say that CONSISTENCY is more important than how much you are doing.

Showing up a little every day > big leaps. This community is AMAZING and I am so blessed that I get to share my journey with all of you!
