Scriptures to Claim When Committing to a New Fitness Routine

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have as believers. The ability to talk and walk with God whenever and wherever is something we should never take lightly. Jesus is our example and we see that in Luke 5:16, He often slipped away to pray and align His heart with God’s.

But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.—Luke 5:16, AMP

As we head into 2021, one of my personal goals and focuses is to more frequently plug into the power, perception, and purpose that can only be found in God’s presence.

One of the number one questions I get from women is how do you keep your eyes on Jesus in your health and fitness journey? My top 2 tips:

1) Pray over your health journey asking God for discipline, joy and wisdom. Ask Him for direction in choosing what program is best for you and your body. News flash- He made you and knows how you work best!

2) Claim scripture over and throughout your journey. The Word of God is our sword sister! Pray it, claim it and speak it over yourself often.

Too often we try to compartmentalize our walks with the Lord. We invite God into our Sunday but not our Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We don’t invite Him into our office and workout space. We think He doesn’t care about those moments but let me remind you of Colossians 1:16, “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”

He cares about the details. Let’s make 2021 the year we invite God in sister.

Here are some of my favorite scriptures to start claiming over your health journey:

1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV – “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Mark 9:23 – And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.’”

Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God. You do not belong to yourself for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”

Proverbs 31:17 – “She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness] for her God-given task and makes her arms strong and firm.”

1 John 4:4 – “Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

Romans 12:1 – “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship.”

1 Corinthians 9:26 – “So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.”

1 Peter 4:11 – “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

Ephesians 6:10 – “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.”
