The Importance of Phytonutrients

Phytonutrients – What are they and why do I need them?

We all know the importance of eating fruits and vegetables in our diets in order to provide us with nutrients to support a healthy immune system. But what is in fruits and vegetables that provide these health benefits?

Enter phytonutrients.

Phytonutrients are gaining traction in the health and fitness world as more studies are being done on their effects on muscle recovery and overall immune support. Phytonutrients are chemicals produced by plants that help them stay healthy.

There are thousands of phytonutrients found in plants and vegetables all over the world and all of the benefits of them are still being discovered. Some of the most common ones are carotenoids, ellagic acid, resveratrol, flavonoids, phytoestrogens, and glucosinolates.

These few phytonutrients alone have already shown to prevent cancer and cardiovascular diseases, support eye health, and have anti-inflammatory and detoxification effects.

While it’s good to get your phytonutrients in your meals by eating whole fruits and vegetables, an easy way to ensure you give your body and immune system a boost is by adding Shakeology and Power Greens Boost to your meal plan.

The thing that makes Shakeology different than other shakes is due to the blend of superfoods that make up Shakeology – you aren’t just getting protein. You are getting some of the best phytonutrients from superfoods specifically picked by co-creator and superfood hunter Darin Olien. (You might recognize Darin from the show “Down to Earth” on Netflix with cohost Zac Efron.) Pair that with Power Greens Boost proprietary greens blend consisting of spinach, chlorella, kale, cucumber, celery, matcha green tea and I guarantee you wont be able to find a more nutrient dense shake or meal anywhere else.

But don’t take it from me, the results speak for themselves. A friend of mine’s mother has been incorporating just Shakeology into her diet for the past year and this was what she sent me after her latest visit to the doctor:

“Was diagnosed with high cholesterol in my late 20’s. Was told it was hereditary and would need to go on medication when I reach 40. Have been on meds for 18 years and in that time have never been able to keep my numbers where they need to be. Late 2018 started a walking program- walked 2-3 miles a day 4-6 times a week. When I had my labs last year I was expecting to see a big drop in cholesterol numbers but didn’t. I was really disappointed. In January this year I started Beachbody. Working out almost everyday plus I drink Shakeology. Try to eat healthy but I love my sweets!! Just had yearly lab work done. OMGoodness!! I was so excited. Total cholesterol dropped from 228 to 157, HDL remained where it needed to be AND LDL dropped from 140 to 76!!! FYI- LDL is bad cholesterol and the one they worry about the most. The only thing I’ve done differently is my workout and drinking Shakeology everyday! This works!!”

Now if that doesn’t show how vital phytonutrients are to our bodies, I don’t know what will other than trying it for yourself and seeing the results in your own health and fitness. If you need help deciding on a Shakeology flavor or in need of a recipe to incorporate your Shakeology with, shoot me a message and I will be happy to help.
