The Power of Time

We’ve spent this first part of 2022 here at Fit for His Glory talking about habits and disciplines. In week one we covered the power of simple daily disciplines, in week two we talked about believing we can and in week three we dove into mastering the mundane. Today I want to tie all of those things together by talking about the power of time- the force that magnifies those simple daily disciplines into growth and success.

Time is one of the most valuable resources God has entrusted us. Time can’t be replaced, replenished, or relived. We each have a finite amount of time here on earth. God’s Word tells us to use our time wisely because He knows that there are many things in life that can distract us from what truly matters. (Romans 14:12)

BUT we must also realize that God will act when he is ready. As limited human beings we can’t understand God’s perspective of time. We want everything now, unaware that God’s timing is better. When God is ready, he will do what needs to be done, not what we would like him to do. Wait for God. Keep showing up and know that his timing is so much better. (Psalm 75:2)

Here are a few verses on what God’s word has to say about time:

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” Ecclesiastes 3:1

As we look at creation we see that there is a natural progression to growth- planting, cultivating and harvesting.

Every goal grows little by little. From day-to-day or week- to- week our goal progress might not look like much BUT over time with consistency, our small actions and short term goals will add up. This is why we must cling to Galations 6:9, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

In our instant gratification world it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that a week of showing up consistently should equal results. The reality is MOST THINGS TAKE TIME and through the waiting, God is sanctifying us and making us more like Him.

Will you feel better after a week of fueling your body better? Absolutely, but you may not see physical results for weeks.

Lara Cassey says in the power sheets, “Do more of what matters and let go of the rest.”

Celebrate progress not perfection.

Celebrate others and cheer them on.

Exchange comparison for gratitude.

And gratitude turns what we have into ENOUGH.

Remember- The best things in life grow slowly.

Showing up is essential.

Showing up consistently is powerful.

Showing up consistently with a positive outlook is even more powerful.

But doing all that for a week… is just doing it for a week.

Chose to have longterm vision and know this- time is your friend.

I love this quote by John Leonard, “It takes a long time to grow and old friend.”

Same goes for changing our habits, daily disciplines and seeing growth.

This is why we must stay focused on and look for the joy of planting and cultivating > the harvest that is coming. Keep showing up friend! God is working and through the planting and cultivating the harvest will feel so much sweeter.
