Faith and Fitness – Combining My Passions to Become a Beachbody Coach

One question I get a lot is about my story and why I made my faith and fitness the focus of my Beachbody coaching business. In this post I will share my story and explain how I used Beachbody, now known as BODi, to launch Fit For His Glory and use this platform to glorify God in my faith and fitness journey.

Before I dive into how I ended up here I want to give you a bit of a back story on my journey.

My Story

I grew up in a Christian home where my parents did a great job of showing me a relationship with Jesus lived out. They both prioritized physical fitness in different ways throughout multiple seasons of life.

They modeled a beautiful example for me of what caring for your body in a positive Biblical way looked like.

I played sports all growing up until I got to high school. I decided rather than pursuing sports that I would pursue theater and business classes.

As a result by my senior year of high school I was pretty sedentary and wasn’t fueling my body well either when I wasn’t at home. Sonic corn dogs and cheese sticks were a regular for me and I could feel my clothes getting tighter and tighter.

How I Started My Fitness Journey

My mom lovingly encouraged me to start walking on the treadmill to get some movement in.

I created a great habit of walking and from there graduated to going to Curves Fitness with my grandmother. It was an all women’s gym which was really comfortable for me as I was just starting my fitness journey.

I fell in love with the simple approach to fitness and the nutrition coaching they gave as a part of your membership.

I lost 25 pounds and felt amazing.

My sophomore year of college my roommate was a personal trainer so I started utilizing the campus gym and working out with her.

Once summer came I decided to join a local gym and started doing Les Mills Body Pump multiple times a week.

My love for fitness continued to grow but so did my obsession with seeing a smaller and smaller number on the scale. Nothing was good enough and I was never content.

Combining My Faith and Fitness

Fast forward to after Brian and I got married. Because I had lost weight in an unhealthy manner prior to the wedding I started gaining it back pretty quickly. I decided to try another popular fitness program with hopes that it might get me the results I wanted. Again, nothing was good enough.

Things were looking up and I had come off the traditional birth control and started feeling myself again when my friend invited me to a Bible study where we would be reading the “Daniel Plan” together. She knew I loved fitness so this would be a lot of fun to read together.

Joining that Bible study was one of the best decisions I made because it really helped me break chains in my health and fitness. For the first time in my life I surrendered it over and laid it at Jesus feet. I drew a line in the sand and said “enough is enough.”

I loved fitness and would continue to steward my body well but not in an obsessive/control focused way.

Becoming a Beachbody Coach

A few months later, my cousin who also loves fitness told me about a girl she was following on instagram. She was doing a fitness challenge with her and was getting great results. She told me I needed to follow her because “She loves Jesus and the TN Vols.” I gave Michelle a follow on instagram and quietly watched her for 3-4 months.

I was working in my dream job at the time and Brian and I had been married for about a year. We both grew up in entrepreneur homes and both have degrees in business, so it was pretty normal for us to spend time brainstorming businesses we could start.

One night at dinner we got to talking about the future and my job at Red Bull. I loved my job and mentoring college students was really rewarding, but I also knew the job may not be ideal with young children.

Brian and I were a few years off from having kids but we knew it was something we did want eventually. I proceeded to tell him about a dream I had always had of working in fitness but also expressed how God had been stirring in my heart a desire to work in women’s ministry.

He asked me if I had ever seen anyone marry the two? I immediately thought of Michelle. I had no idea what she did but I saw her showing up on instagram working out and serving women in health while her kids napped or in the early mornings.

Brian challenged me that night to reach out to Michelle and simply ask if she would be willing to set up a call and let me pick her brain.

I had no idea she was a Beachbody coach, I simply wanted her as my mentor. I was so scared to message her because in my mind she was “insta-famous.” After a lot of conversations with Brian I finally reached out. Of course she was the nicest person ever and we scheduled a time to talk for the next day.

I thought I loved Michelle on Instagram but turns out she was even better in person! After our first conversation I signed up as a COACH and client at the same time. I had no idea what I was doing but the fact that they had Body Pump I could do at home + I would have her as my mentor meant I was sold!

Starting My Own Faith and Fitness Brand

For the first six weeks I had NO CLUE what I was doing. In fact I started out as Caroline Foster fitness and just focused on my own journey.

I continued to experience God breaking massive chains in my fitness. Even just the simple act of my day not revolving around getting to the gym and being able to workout from home was huge for me. No longer having to turn down coffee with a friend or an extra church activity to fit in a workout.

As I remained consistent in my health journey I just focused on sharing my story and praying that the Lord would reveal what direction He wanted me to take this business.

One morning I was sitting on the porch of Brian and I’s little one bedroom apartment praying for direction and vision. I was doing a Bible study at the time by Beth Moore and she said something that really stuck out to me.

I don’t remember the exact quote but essentially she talked about being in the Word so we are equipped and ready to be used by God to share His Word.

As I sat there in that moment the Lord said, “Fit for His Glory” over me. In that moment it all clicked: I wanted to pursue fitness for His Glory. As a way to steward my body out of obedience and as a tool that gives me the energy to care for my family and others.

One quote that has stuck out to me through the start of my business and journey is, ”Our pursuit is about God’s glory not our own.” In our faith and fitness, in our business- it’s about using these tools like fitness and business to shine the light of Jesus.

8 Years in the Making of a Faith and Fitness Coach

I’ve now been coaching for 8 years. I’ve seen a lot of success in my business.

From a client perspective. I’ve helped women experience freedom for the first time in their health and fitness and get results that help them for more energetic, confident and stronger as wives and mothers.

I’ve seen Mom’s playing with their kids more because they have more energy and marriages get stronger because of the spiritual and physical fruits they are seeing in their lives by focusing on deepening their relationship with Jesus and bettering their health.

From a business perspective, I’m a 3 time Elite Beachbody Coach (top 200 coaches in the network).

I am a 5 star diamond coach in one business center, and opened to more business centers where I have achieved 2 star diamond and diamond in each.

I have been able to triple my income from what I was making working in corporate America. (“Beachbody does not guarantee any level of success or income from the Team Beachbody Coach Opportunity. Each Coach’s income depends on his or her own efforts, diligence, and skill. See our Statement of Independent Coach Earnings located at “Statement of Independent Coach Earning” for the most recent information on our Coaches’ actual incomes.”)

Getting to do all of that while working my business in the cracks of my day around my children’s schedule is truly a dream come true.

No longer having to ask off work to be there for a special day at school or stressing about babysitters and traveling for work. I get to be the primary voice they hear throughout the day.

Now I want to answer a few questions that I am frequently asked:

What’s it like being a Christian Beachbody coach in a secular Company?

Before Beachbody I worked 10 years in Corporate America managing collegiate marketing and  sampling program in Middle and East TN for a popular beverage company.

I loved my job and the company, but most of the people I worked with were not believers. It was never a problem as I felt very firm in my walk with the Lord and was not easily swayed, however I did struggle with being misunderstood and never feeling like I fit in.

Of course as a believer we are called to be “in the world”, and “not of the world” as it states in John 17:14-17 so that feeling of not fitting in was never a problem for me. I looked at is as my mission field and a place to mentor the college students I worked with.

Coming to Beachbody I thought it was so cool to get to run my business how I felt called. Obviously with that comes others doing the business how they see fit, which doesn’t always align with my beliefs which is understandable since they may not know Jesus or feel called to do their business like He has called me.

Beachbody is not a Christian company, so I can’t expect them to operate like one. I just feel thankful to run my business how God has called me without any rules against sharing religion or beliefs.

What’s different about your approach to fitness as a Christian Beachbody coach?

As believers we are called to do fitness and business differently.  1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” We no longer operate from a place that says “look at me” we now operate from a place that says, “look at God!”

For me in my fitness that means a few things:

  • Looking at our bodies and our lives as a vessel for Christ to use to serve and love others, bringing Him glory. I take care of my body so I am fit and ready to do the things He might call me to do.
  • Stewarding my body wisely, keeping my heart in check from making my fitness an idol or obsession.
  • Physical fitness is of value, but godliness is of value in every way. And being willing to receive whatever ministry God has given us in that.

In business that looks like:

  • Praying over my clients and coaches regularly.
  • Giving my best in my business and work and trusting Him with the rest.
  • Intentionally praying over my business and direction.
  • Finding ways to continually point the women I coach to Jesus through devotionals, business trackers, etc. and interweaving scripture and worship into that.

What’s your approach to network marketing?

As believers it’s important that we do business differently, no matter what the model of our company. I haven’t always done these perfectly and I look back often disappointed with the moments where I fell short, but from that we learn and grow. Here is what I have learned about approaching network marketing differently:

  • Market like an educator, not a sales person.
  • Under promise, over deliver.
  • Work hard but trust God with the results and timing.
  • Show up and be consistent, don’t show off.
  • Focus on serving over what you will get out of the sale.

How do you work with your coaches to help them launch their faith and fitness business?

Our team mission statement is,

“The Fit For His Glory Sisters’ goal is to lead women to live strong and healthy lives for the glory of God. We do this by providing biblically based health and business training with the goal of helping people help people.”

Everything we do is based around this mission statement. We really see our business and selves as so much more than Beachbody coaches. We view Fit for His Glory as a brand the Lord has entrusted us to steward well, and try to make sure He is a part of everything we do.

When women join our team we have a getting started right call first thing to go over our team and how things will work. We have a Powerpoint we walk them through.

Once we wrap that up we plug them into our new coach mentorship. We have a new 3 week mentorship kick off on the 2nd Monday of every month. We plug them into a group me message and they get access to the E-learning course for the mentorship to take at their own pace.

From there we plug them into the team page. We have 2-3 “action hours” (guided work time) a week to help them really learn how they can grow the business. There is also a business tracker that we have edited to make faith based specifically for our team. We have a team call every week alternating between guest speakers and other girls on our team.

Once we plug them into those things and we wrap up the mentorship we have other trainings on the e-learning platform for social media, emerald ranking, diamond ranking, and a whole section on “other trainings.” We host lots of different challenges and team wide bootcamps.

How did you build a faith and fitness community?

It’s taken a lot of time, trial and error but I can finally say we have a THRIVING faith and fitness community that is making a huge impact in women’s lives.

We use group me messaging app for our fit community sweaty selfies and daily convo + Beachbody on demand groups for daily post with value and tracking. It’s been a great combo!

We also have an open ZOOM gym where you can log on while your doing your workout to see others doing their workout from home.

Each month we have a “theme” which keeps it fun and exciting!

What makes your challenge groups different than other Beachbody Coaches?

The connection we have as sisters in Christ because of the Holy Spirit. It’s deeper than just moms who like working out, we are united because of Christ. We encourage, pray for and cheer each other on in our journey. It’s grace based but also encourages showing up and giving our best.

Want to start your own fitness business from home?

If you have gotten this far, then I have to ask, have you ever considered starting your own fitness business?

It’s scary to think about, right?

You might be telling yourself all the reasons why you can’t.

But let me tell you, don’t let the doubts creep in.

This business is for the dreamers and the doers.

It’s for the woman who has a passion to pour into women in fitness.

For the woman that wants to leave their job to do something they love.

It’s for the Mom who wants to work from home so they can be with their kids.

I did it, and I want to help you get there too.

Every second Monday of the month I kick off a 3 week mentorship for ladies who are starting their fitness business.

In this mentorship, I will equip you with everything you need to get your business started fast with Beachbody and help you get sales in your first month.

And again, this business goes father than just Beachbody. While I will help you succeed as a Beachbody coach, I will also teach how to put your own spin on your business.

I’ll give you some ideas on how to grow your own brand, find your niche, and learn how you can find other streams of revenue outside of just Beachbody.

So if you are ready to get started, head on over to my Work With Me page and let’s get your business launched.
