My Workout Space

I get asked a lot about our garage gym equipment so I thought I would give a quick rundown on everything that we got for our gym so that maybe you can create your own garage gym too.

First of all the convenience of having a place in your home to workout is worth every penny. The time and inconvenience of going to the gym alone will make you appreciate having a space to go workout in the pockets of your day. My husband enjoys working out before work so having the gym at the house allows him to get 30 minutes of extra sleep. I love it because I can workout while the kids are still asleep or napping which is HUGE.

So here is a list of all the things in our home gym. I’ve linked to the ones that I could find online.

Interlocking rubber floor mats – These are great because you can enter the dimensions of your room or workout space and it will tell you what you need to order.

Adjustable Bench – Brian bought ours back when he was in high school from Academy Sports. He said Academy, Dicks Sporting Goods, or Amazon have a good selection depending on how much you want to spend, but all benches are different so he suggests going to the store and trying one to ensure you like how it feels and like how it adjusts if you get an adjustable one.

Rogue squat stand – Brian uses this mostly, but he can do most every kind of powerlifting exercise like squats, bench, etc. it comes with a pull-up bar as well.

Dumbbells and Rack – Brian bought these in high school at Academy Sports. They don’t sell the same stand, so he recommends checking Amazon, Dicks, or Rogue. Now many companies sell adjustable dumbbells where you just buy two dumbbells that can adjust between 5 and 50 lbs. Those are great if your husband plans to use them too and you want to save space, but the downside is only one person can use them at a time. It will cost you more to get started because ones like Bowflex has retail around $599 now, but it’s probably cheaper than buying a set of dumbbells for every 5 pounds between 5 and 50 lbs. The dumbbells we have only go up to 40.

Rogue bumper plates – Brian mainly uses these for the squat/bench rack. He said you only really need to buy four 10 lb plates, two 25 lb plates, and four 45 lb plates and that will give you plenty to work with. He also has two small 5 lb plates as well.

Barbell – Brian bought his at a used sports store called Play It Again Sports for only $85. A brand new one from Rogue will probably cost around $200.

Extras:
We got some wall mirrors from an old bathroom, You might find some on craigslist or marketplace. We got our American Flag from Amazon (and we made sure to buy one that is made in America, lol).
